Wellington Annual Memorial Run 31st January

Wellington Hash had their annual Memorial run on the 31st of January – an A to B run attended by about 40 hashers.

“A” is the Whenu Tapu cemetery at Plimmerton and “B” is Porkbox’s house down on the waterfront at Pukerua Bay.

Prick of the week writes the trash and so follows the write up of relatively new hasher Penguin.

W were joined for the evening by two Mount Maunganui Hash members:  Macwatt and Kahluis.  After we had a toast to the 19 members who have passed on (thanks to Porkbox for arranging the ceremony) we took off through what might have been a graverobbers’ entry to the cemetery, heretofore only known to Porkbox.

A pleasant walk through some shady bush, across a railway track, then a fence, then a bog to fill our shoes with mud… then uphill.  Then another bog and some fences - but always uphill.  The trail was a bit obscure in places along the way and, early in the climb, the hounds were spread out over several spurs and gullies –we all seemed to realise that the trail ultimately led upwards.  Out onto the top of the ridge into what had to be very balmy weather for this part of the country and then along to the marked descent point.  Porkbox had put in some hard yards with a shovel to prepare a goat track down the hill to the beach.  The weather was superb and the Piss-stop at the beach near Wairaka Rock was a welcome conclusion to the climbing.

Back at Porkbox’s front yard the usual stories were told while Tammy cooked the meat and Ayotollah and his henchmen Sproggy and Capt’n Cook dished out the fines.  Notable fines (from my perspective) went to the characters that weren’t wearing a hash shirt.

DT demonstrated that truth should not get in the way of a good story - so you should all (except DT) be worried about being in line for POW award next Hash.
